Paul Catlow and Saera Ahmad, owners of The Castle Hotel on Westgate in uphill Lincoln, were keen to do something to support healthcare workers on the frontline looking after those affected by Covid-19.

Saera told The Lincolnite, which covered the positive news story, that after being forced to close and furlough staff, they wanted to try and do something to help the NHS at this difficult time, as well as make use of their empty commercial kitchen. She said: “We don’t like just sitting at home and wanted to use our time to help. The idea is for NHS staff to have a healthy meal while on shift or to take it home when they leave, so they have at least one home cooked meal a day.”

Since starting the initiative on Friday 17th April, they have delivered in excess of 200 meals to the ICU, A&E and Covid-19 wards at Lincoln County Hospital, as well as to nursing teams including those at Ravendale Health Clinic. News has already started to spread and meals are now also being made available to healthcare workers in the wider community.

The meals offered include many popular favourites such as sausage and mash with onion gravy, cottage pie and chilli with rice (both with a vegetarian option), as well as desserts including apple and mixed berry crumble. gravy.

The couple plan to provide meals every Monday, Wednesday and Friday but are calling on restaurants and businesses locally to join them so that meals can be provided seven days a week.

Paul and Saera have launched a GoFundMe page to help enable them to provide these meals for the next five weeks - please click on the link to make a donation.
